Sales Tax and Franchise Tax
The State of Texas charges a 6.25% sales tax on the items sold in the State of Texas with the exception of food. Local municipalities can charge four other typesof tax; city, county, specialty purpose and transit.
These taxes may not exceed 2%. The total sales tax may not exceed 8.25% in the State of Texas. The exception would be extensions of the special purpose tax such as fire works. An additional 2% is charged for fireworks sales bringing the sales tax on fireworks to 10.25%. For more details call the Texas State Comptrollers Office.
